….And We’re Off!

Greetings from Los Angeles International Airport, where Matt and I are hanging out at Gate 159 as we wait to board our China Southern Airlines flight to Guangzhou, China. We will spend a nine-hour layover in Guangzhou before connecting to Colombo, Sri Lanka to start our trip. We’ve heard that China Southern Airlines gifts all passengers free metro cards and hotel rooms for layovers over eight hours, so we plan to take them up on the offer so we can zip into the center of the city and explore a few sights. I know Matt is excited to be back in China, even just for a few hours!

My dad dropped us off at LAX and snapped this quick picture. You can see how big my backpack is! Matt’s is a bit bigger. We’ll be able to carry them on the plane, which is very convenient.

A (brief) California re-cap:

We had an awesome two weeks in LA, enjoying quality family time with my side and also touring local sights with the Muller family during their visit. Highlights included the Getty Museum, a bike ride along the beach, breakfast at the Redondo Beach Pier, lunch at the Green Temple (my favorite restaurant), bowling with the Muller and Levine clans, a Lakers game, and driving to the Point Vicente Lighthouse. We even squeezed in a day-trip to San Diego with Matt's parents, stopping at Mission San Juan Capistrano on the way down. Needless to say, the west coast wedding celebration was incredibly memorable and special, featuring beautiful floral arrangements, a rainbow in the sky (I kid you not!), and Grandpa reuniting with all eight grandkids at once - a first in a very long time! Matt and I were over the moon with how everything turned out. Below are a handful of pictures from the visit.

Perfectly timed rainbow. Can't plan for that!
